Aloha, Kumusta Po

We are Elaine and Vanessa, the proud ladies behind Kam&46. Many of you have been wondering the story behind our name, and it’s in honor of the homes that we grew up in. We both grew up similarly, raised by immigrant parents and grandparents, and brought up in homes that were basically the hub for our large families. It would be a place where we would all go to hang out, have our gatherings, and family parties - it’s a place where many memories and traditions were created. Coincidentally, we both had nicknames our family created for the house we were raised in. Vanessa's home was called Kam, for Kamehameha IV Rd in Kalihi, Hawaii, and Elaine's home was called 46, for the house number in Daly City, California. In our homes we learned our Filipino culture, and in Vanessa's case, also the local and melting pot of Hawaii culture. We not only learned it, but it became deeply rooted in us, and we became proud of it. Much of this was through food because food is one of the main roots of every culture. All of the food we put out is truly comforting to us because they are all inspired by the food and flavors that we grew up with. Being far from our family, the food we eat and share with you all brings us back to loving memories, and makes us feel closer to home. With this journey, we not only wish to share our culture but inspire you all to reflect back on your roots and what makes you happy. Come and eat with us, and we’ll show you our happiness. Aloha and Mabuhay, friends!
